A Mothers Invitation

A Mother's Invitation: Embracing God's Call with Faith and Trust
As we celebrate mothers and their immeasurable impact on our lives, it's fitting to reflect on one of the most profound maternal stories in history – that of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Her story is not just a tale of motherhood, but a powerful lesson in faith, trust, and the transformative power of saying "yes" to God's invitations.
Imagine for a moment being in Mary's shoes. A young woman, betrothed but not yet married, suddenly visited by an angel with an extraordinary message. The angel Gabriel appears to her, saying, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" (Luke 1:28). It's no wonder the scripture tells us she was troubled by this greeting, pondering what it could mean.
But then comes the invitation that would change not just Mary's life, but the course of human history:
"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS." (Luke 1:30-31)
This moment encapsulates a truth that resonates through the ages: When God extends an invitation, the correct response is always, "Yes, Lord." It's a principle that challenges us to examine our own hearts and responses to God's calls in our lives.
This brings us to a crucial understanding: God's invitations often require change, faith, and trust. They rarely come with a full roadmap or a guarantee of smooth sailing. Instead, they ask us to step out of our comfort zones, to believe in the unseen, and to trust in God's goodness and power.
When God gives an invitation, He also provides the way, the means, and the power to accomplish it. We are never left to fulfill God's calling on our own strength or wisdom. Just as the Holy Spirit would empower Mary to conceive and bear the Son of God, so too does God equip us for every task He calls us to.
So how can we cultivate this kind of faith in our own lives? Here are a few practical steps:
  1. Trust God with your "yes." When you sense God calling you to something, resist the urge to overanalyze or let fear hold you back. Instead, like Mary, offer your willingness to God.
  2. Identify the invitation God is extending to you right now. What is He asking you to fully accept, even without knowing all that may follow? It might be a small act of kindness or a major life change. Whatever it is, approach it with an open heart.
  3. Ask God to strengthen your faith and give you the courage to obey. Remember, you're not meant to fulfill God's calling on your own strength. Lean into His power and provision.
  4. Look for examples of God's faithfulness in your life and in the lives of others. Just as the angel pointed Mary to Elizabeth's miracle, we too can find encouragement in the testimonies of God's work around us.
  5. Be prepared for change. Saying yes to God often means embracing a new direction or a different way of thinking. Be open to the transformative work God wants to do in and through you.                                                                                                                          May we all find the courage to embrace God's invitations, trusting that He who calls us is faithful to equip and empower us for every good work He has prepared for us to do.
